Molybdenum disulphide—A traditional external lubricant that shows interesting interphase properties in pulp‐based composites

چکیده
Compression molded composites were prepared through a water-assisted mixing of an aqueous suspension poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid), additive, and pulp fibers [thermomechanical (TMP) or dissolving (DP)]. The lubricating additives used magnesium stearate (MgSt) molybdenum disulphide (MoS2). composite materials had dry contents ranging from 30 to 70 wt% 5 additive relative the weight pulp. adsorption onto was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive X-ray analysis. DMA showed that MgSt MoS2 gave similar interphase properties for TMP samples at all loading contents, but combination improved overall DP-based composites. tensile modulus, fiber content (TMP DP), increased compared matrix factor 6.3 8.1, without lubricants, 8 10.7, with respectively. increase in melt viscosity observed lubricated greater TMP-based containing MoS2. At lubricant wt%, TMP, behaved as both compatibilizer.

Molybdenum Disulfide in Lubricant Applications – a Review
Molybdenum disulfide is one of the best known solid lubricants, and although it originally gained popularity in aerospace and military applications, it is now commonly found in a variety of lubrication applications. It is widely used in greases and specialized grease-like products known as pastes, in fluid lubricants such as automotive and industrial gear oils, in solid film lubricants includin...
متن کاملInterphase tuning for stronger and tougher composites
The development of composite materials that are simultaneously strong and tough is one of the most active topics of current material science. Observations of biological structural materials show that adequate introduction of reinforcements and interfaces, or interphases, at different scales usually improves toughness, without reduction in strength. The prospect of interphase properties tuning m...
متن کاملCryogenic friction behavior of PTFE based solid lubricant composites
Solid lubricants used in aerospace applications must provide low friction and a predictable operation life over an extreme range of temperatures, environments and contact conditions. PTFE and PTFE composites have shown favorable tribological performance as solid lubricants. This study evaluates the effect of temperature on the friction coefficient of neat PTFE, a PTFE/ PEEK composite and an exp...
متن کاملInvestigating interphase development in woodpolymer composites by inverse gas chromatography
The influence of secondary interactions on the development of interfacial structure in composi tes of wood and amorphous thermoplast ic polymers is not well understood. This s tudy used inverse gas chromatography to investigate the effect of different polymers on the surfirce energy of partially or fully coated white pine wood meal. In this way, the development of the interphase was monitored a...

The objective of this research was to develop novel cellulose acetate (biopolymer) composite materials with an excellent antimicrobial activity by embedding molybdenum trioxide particles with unique high specific surface area. High surface area molybdenum trioxide particles were prepared from freshly precipitated molybdenum trioxide dihydrate (MoO3 ·2H2 O) and subsequent calcination at 340°C un...
